ACCOMODATION: 16 tents each with a glorious view of the Kilimanjaro.
Tortilis Camp is on the south western edge of the Amboseli National park, facing Mt Kilimanjaro and is accessed from within the National Park. It overlooks its own private wildlife conservancy, Kitirua, 30,000 acres. Away from the busy eastern side of Amboseli, and with its own private conservancy, guests experience a wild and private Amboseli. Amboseli is famous for its elephant herds, which have been followed and documented by world renowned researchers. Amboseli has some of the largest elephants in Africa, and the guides at Tortilis Camp know the individual elephants, their family history, and are able to get very close to the habituated herds.
Description
Tortilis Camp was designed and built in 1993, the first ?eco-lodge? in Kenya, it won the coveted Tourism for Tomorrow award. The idea was to build a small tented camp on the site by the Masai community. The site had been earmarked for a 200 bed lodge but Kenya Wildlife Service insisted the project to be scaled down to a more eco-friendly size and design.
